I love the first dry fly fishing if the season! it gets the fishing going and breaks up the monotony of nymphing! I fished a limestone stream and the water was warmer the air! Our quarry was wild brown trout and we were not disappointed! The stream is a mix of freestone and limestone. Stoneflies and Frenchies were the meal ticket on this day. The fly fishing wasn’t too difficult and smiles were had all around!

Yes another one is coming :) I headed out to Pennsylvania to hopefully catch a blue winged olive or baetis hatch. I wasn’t disappointed, however the hatch only lasted an hour and a half but the wild browns were looking up. the action was so fast paces that I didn’t take a lot of photos and I am glad that I didn’t because the hatch ended quickly! I also told myself no nymph fishing! It was fun to catch a bunch of fish on dries. The long leader system from my recent article in American Angler was killer! My net was out often and the fish liked my flies. What else can you ask for. I also met the “Beetle” on the stream. It was a great afternoon with a lot of laughter, just what this is all about!

When we pulled into Hancock, New York I didn’t want to get out of the car to be honest :) I figured let’s just throw him into the fire :) He did well landing a nice wild brown trout on his first cast! We caught quite a few fish with a few going over the 20 inch mark. Egg patterns took a few fish and the rest took size 20 midge larvae fished under indicators. We saw quite a few dead fish that look stressed from spawning. It was great now Tom can say, “the West Branch is easy ;) !

With the estuary not frozen we were able to float through the Douglaston Salmon Run. It was an amazing day with a ton of smiles all around. We caught quite a few fish and lost some nice ones as well. We passed up one pool, where we didn’t catch ONE and saw at least TWENTY… we stink :) This was the last trip to Pulaski New York before the fly fishing shows, but it was the most fun one yet of the year to date. One of the steelhead was over the 15 pound mark. Great day with an awesome guide!

It’s quite stressful at times, but I have still gotten out for a few hours here and there over the past few weeks. I was looking through my pictures and found some steelhead that have never made it to the blog. The last trip up there with Bob and his son Mike was spectacular. We hammered them on indicators and egg representations. It was steelhead crazy! The Salmon River in Pulaski, New York was taken over by three weirdos :) It was a great time and the photos made me smile, it’s what fishing is all about… fun. It allows you to escape from all of your problems for a little while. These are not even all of the pictures!!!! IT was a great time and made me forget about my aunt for a while!

Aaron had a PACKED house today. I’d say 70 people filled the room to the point that it was overflowing. I heard from multiple people that the video laden presentation was the best they have ever seen. Multiple people also said his enthusiasm was simply infectious.

I’m psyched for Aaron and Alex that the presentation and DVD were so well received.

People loved the idea of So Fly Magazine and I’m excited for the official launch on Friday at Somerset. Finally LEGIT.
