Cigars and Frozen Guides

My best buddy Regan and I hit the river this morning first thing. We we’re limited by Regan’s two small children, two hour drive radius rule, but it didn’t matter.

We fished three rivers today and caught fish in all three. A lehigh valley tour of sorts. We hit the pohopoco which is a killer little tailwater and managed a few really nice fish 10 to 15 inches.

Next we slid on down into the Lehigh and managed a around ten fish anywhere from 10 to 16 inches. They couldn’t get enough of our golden stoneflies, it only took Regan 25 hours of internet research to figure that one out, but don’t worry he billed it to his clients at 300 dollars an hour.

Our last stop was my ultimate feel good spot, the Little Lehigh. After a convo with Rod in the shop, in which he tried to convince me the little lehigh couldn’t be beat for rivers in the north east. He must have confused “can’t be beat in the north east” for “most silted river in the northeast”

Of course we destroyed them with my new little lehigh special that I tied 6 of last night. When we ran out the midges worms and eggs worked almost as well. I would say i broke my hatchery outflow record and caught around 35 fish from a 4 inch wild fish to nasty fish that should just be put out of there misery. There we’re some nice ones inbetween.

The best part of the day was chilling on the wall smoking a cigar with my best friend who first gave me this gift of fly fishing, even with frozen guides and 18 mph winds it was a beautiful day out. I often found myself singing, “as it was in the beginning, so shall it be in the end.” Nothing quite warms me up like a little Bob Marley.

Enjoy your weekend all!

  1. To be fair, the winds probably topped out at 15 mph.
